We need support not only from the EB community but from outside the EB community as well.
In my efforts to lobby for this cause I have found that there are a lot of people (people who already have green cards and people who are US citizens) who are willing to support but reluctant to write a letter to the President. We should provide different, convenient means to everybody who wants to support this cause. While we continue our pursuit of collecting as many letters as possible, can we come up with a way to get support from such individuals? How about collecting signatures in addition to what we are doing? Something like http://www.petitiononline.com.

Actually across the board americans are very concerned about the pouring illegals into USA and they are all united and look forward to Tancredo.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) will take over the ranking member position on the Senate Judiciary Committee after striking a deal with his more senior colleagues over the weekend, sources confirm to The Hill.
Sessions and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) reached the deal that will allow the Alabama Republican to take over for Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.), whose departure from the GOP last week left the committee without a ranking member.
Under terms of the deal, Sessions will serve as ranking member until the 112th Congress, when he will take over the ranking member post on the Senate Budget Committee. Current Budget Committee ranking member Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) is retiring at the end of the 111th Congress.
Grassley, the top Republican on the Finance Committee, will then become ranking member on the Judiciary Committee.
Last week, Grassley had enlisted the help of Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) in positioning himself for the top slot on the committee. Under the deal floated then, Hatch would have taken over Judiciary for the remainder of the 111th, with Grassley taking the helm once his tenure on Finance expired.
The seven Republicans who remain on the Judiciary Committee after Specter's departure will meet to vote on Sessions's ascension early this week. Once they do, the decision goes to the full Republican Conference, which usually ratifies decisions the committee makes. Sources could not recall a ranking member vote made by a committee that was not, in the end, ratified by the full conference.
The move is likely to please conservative organizations around Washington who are gearing up for a fight over the eventual nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter. The departure of Specter, who had long been one of the leading GOP voices on judicial appointees, had robbed the Republican conference of an obvious spokesman.
Conservative groups, who have already held conference calls to begin organizing a response to President Obama's eventual nominee, were wary of putting Grassley atop the Judiciary Committee if a fight were to break out. The organizations viewed Sessions as the better spokesman, and more likely to lead the Republican charge in questioning the nominee.
Though Republicans are likely to face a filibuster-proof Democratic majority when the nominee heads to the Senate, conservative opposition groups said they would push senators to ask tough questions, in line with those Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito faced when they underwent confirmation hearings.
Leading conservative legal strategists have admitted they have little chance of pursuing a filibuster � even facing only a slim deficit, Democrats were unable to block either Roberts or Alito � though that has not stopped them from gathering intelligence on leading contenders for the nomination.
Already, those groups have spread around opposition research on top contenders like Appeals Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor and Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh.
There are strong indications (but nothing fully confirmed) that Sen. Grassley will be taking the ranking member slot at Judiciary, and of course relinquish his ranking member position at Finance.

Are you in desperate need of a job for monetary or immigration reasons. Since your EAD is valid until mid 2010, you don't have to worry about your immigration status.
unless he gets an RFE out of the blue asking for an employment verification letter, with a 30 day turnaround time. Then he does need to worry about his immigration status too.
485 pending means having a same/similar job offer ready at all times.

you don't need a US visa, If you don't stay more than 30 days, You can come back with expired visa, but, you should have a Valid I94, Just don't surrender your I94 while you leave USA.

I believe that is not correct. To get back into US when you are on H1B/H4/L1/L2, you need to have a valid unexpired stamp on your passport.
Say, your stamp expires on July 31st 2008 but you have a approved I-797
which is valid up to Dec 31st 2009, then you may get an I-94 that is valid upto
Dec 31st 2009.
Not surrendering I-94 before leaving US is not a great idea!

What I meant was if right now you and your employer together are paying $800/month, it'll be your responsibility to pay it in full once you switch your job. The previous employer doesn't have an obligation to pay his part once you're off his books.

Actually yes, my H1-B stamped visa is still valid so I have no issue with that. However, here is where things get a little complicated :-).
My wife is also in H1-B working for same company as me (we have been with this company for about 7 years now, always on H1-B), she is doing her own GC process up to the point where she got her own I-140 completed and a 3 year H1-B extension based on that. Company decided not to apply for her own AOS because she applied with me (my PD was older so it was better that way, she got her LC thru PERM, I was stuck in backlog for 2 1/2+ years). I have a kid also on H-4 (H-4 based on mother's H-1B, just becase the consul liked her more than me and becase she had to attach H-4 to only one H1-B :-)). Now, H1-B/H4 stamped visas for wife and kid are expired, so they are planning to get new stamped using the 3 year extension while visiting mother land, they will have to put something like "AOS pending" in the visas application I guess. Do you know if consulate will ask for receipt notice of 485 to verify the received date when requesting the visa? or is I-129 alone enough knowing that is valid to pursuit GC while in H1-B.

My previous employer (A Desi consulting company) has refused to give me the experience letter and unfortunately I do not even know a single person in that company. The only person I used to talk to was the then VP of that company and as I left the company without sufficient notice, he has refused to give me the experience letter.
My question is at what stage of GC do you need experience letters from all your employers? I have not produced any (fake or real) experience letter as of yet from that employer, and I have obtained my Labor and I-140. Is it only required when you file for 485? If yes, in that case what are my options ?

I'm planning to appear personally at New York Indian embassy to clarify if they have any questions because the current passport was applied thro Tatkal service and I see a note (OBSERVATION: The validity of this passport should not be extended without prior reference to the office of issue) in the passport.
Would this cause any delay in issuing my passport ?

I got my passport and my wife's passport from NY consulate. My wife's passport has similar endorsement I thought it would take longer to get her passport because of that endorsement. But it came 2 days later than mine. (all in 8 to 10 days)
Not sure we just got lucky. I remember to have read some where that renewal of all short validity passport takes longer because they need to get info from India. Is your regular validity or short ?
PS: I had observed that the tatkal passports (in India) are issued with 5 year validity only. If it is originally issues for 5 years they will just extend it to 10 and do not reissue a new passport.

If you look at what Obama said on Airforce One the other day and the comments now, it is clear that he is not really committed in getting the CIR done this year. Just to pacify the Hispanic community we will probably have some kind of a start and thats about it.
