Hi Gurus,
For USCIS prospective, does it matter if I file myself 2008 federal and state tax return online using Turbo tax/ TaxAct. If there is any RFE in future on pending I-485 for tax filing, Will USCIS accept online filed 1040 form?
I am thinking why to give around $250-300 to HR block � professional if I can file myself. Thanks
I used HnR block only once and never used it since. Been filing my taxes online for the past 8 years. If you have qualms about sending your online print outs for an RFE, you can always request the IRS for an official transcript of your taxes for the past 5 years (which is what I did while filing for my I-485).

You have a good suggestion. However, I would like to point out that in the past IV only had a $50 or $100 recurring option. IV members then had the same argument that if we have a smaller option like $25/month we might get more members to contribute. Now that we have that option, we want $5/month.

I actually made someone in my family do this when they changed houses as they had no idea about this (GC holder for 15 years). that person was so mad with all the rules WRT transit visas (travels extensively) that they decided to get their citizenship finally. :-))

I have been experiencing weird things on my long time back approved I-140. Last month I got HLUD that the case has been transfered to TSC as they've jurisdiction over it. 3 days later it changed to saying Acknowledgement notice has been sent for withdrawl of petition. Then a 2 week ago had LUD on my 485. 4 days after that spouse got RFE for medicals. And today just now another HLUD on 140 saying :

This is my first post. I am PhD student majoring in Math..........If this bill passes it will be a boon for all international PhDs. But congressman Flake proposed this in 2008 and it died very soon. I hope it will gain some momentum this time atleast. Is it possible to send a supporting letter from many international PhD students to publicize it?

Even I haven't heard anything back! I filed concurrently I140/485 to TSC on July 13 and had a notice date on Sep 7. My priority date is Jan 2006, does it mean I need to wait for 2 more years to get my I140 approved. This doesn't make any sense
This is very frustrating, considering nobody knows anything. hasn't shown any approvals for TSC EB3 since March 30! But there have been approvals for those whose PD is current!
I wonder how many TSC July EB3 have not heard anything.

Is this possible? If this sure is the case, there is no need to really postpone using EAD to even work on a second job. If there are problems, just go out of the country and come back in H1. This applies only if you have sufficient time in your H1, ofcourse.

It is very much possible and infact in one of the DHS memo's it has been clearly mentioned that they are looking for possible pre-application filing procedure for adjustment cases... All we have do is request DHS secretary... I am not sure about the success rate, but we can atleast try.

What are the chances of passing of CIR this year? I would tell 80% chance in Senate and 50% in House. Of course this year there is better chance of CIR. But if they make more liberal than 2006 then it may be difficult in Senate also I was surprised that House does not give any strong support or strong opposition. May be they want to see what happens in Senate.Politics is important reason for CIR itself. Mccain wants to project Pro Latino for his aspiration of President. Bush want to achieve something in his presidency as Iraq was full flop. So he is keen for it. Immigration is only big issue Bush can project himself. Democrats want to win Presidency and also keep both the houses in next election. Democrats are pro labor as well as Pro immigrants. Those are opposite views. It is to be seen how they are going to have compromise.

You can file in EB3. Approvals are taking 2 months these days. Mine took 2 months. Once your PERM is approved you can file I-140 in premium which should take 2 weeks. Once you have both of these approved then you can file for H1 extentions.

It was stupid of your lawyer to use mailing without any tracking facility. Come to think of it, Priority mail has a tracking number. How your lawyer chose to opt out of it ? Hmm...
My lawyer didn't even give me any tracking number neither confirmed that my package reached USCIS. So I am pretty much like you without any information.

I am curious to see it anybody ever got 2nd 3 yr extension (after 6 yr on H1) with I-140 pending/approved and i-485 filled but AOS pending.

I renewed my passport at CGNY last month. Here's what needs to be done:
You fill out a portion of the form online. When done, it will generated a PDF with your application number on it. You have to then print it and complete the remaining pages by pen. You also need to complete a "Nationality Status Verification Form". Its on their website.
I mailed the forms along with the supporting documents and photos to the consulate address in NY via USPS (I chose the most secure option available). Here is a list of supporting docs:
1. I-797 copy (notarized), this could be I-485 in your case
2. Electric bill showing proof of residence
3. Driving license copy (notarized)
4. One combined money order for the application fee + express mail cost
Like reddy77, I got my new passport in 3 weeks.
Your source of confusion about the self addressed envelope is probably the PDF instructions on their website. I think they are outdated. Just go by the web page instructions @ RENEWAL OF PASSPORT OR NEW PASSPORT - www.indiacgny.org (http://www.indiacgny.org/php/showContent.php?linkid=225)
Also, I remember seeing a section in the application form about minor children. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies everybody. My labor got declined on Dec 10, 2009 and I was notified on Jan, 20,2010. By the time they notify me, 30 calendar days are already passed. So I cannot apply for motion to refile.
