I disagree with the "unless it pays money", not all paying jobs will be good for your portfolio. What you put on your portfolio will limit jobs you can or cannot get the next time around.
Then don't put it in the portfolio. If all you can do is one thing at a time, then yes a hole will appear. If you're a freelancer, you will NOT BE BLAMED for a company's evil doings. If you ARE blamed, you don't know how to pitch yourself.
Now picture this, you walk into a very nice office overlooking Sydney Harbor the lobby is paved in stirling silver fixtures while the floor is imported Italian marble, you go into the boardroom for the meeting the table is made of Japanese Maple while there a some very nice high backed leather seats to sit on.
Never send a boy to do a man's job. Or, in other words, recognize the difference between yourself and what you're getting into. If you can't tell, then sayings such as, "in hindsight," will be in your future.
You meet the manager, he assures you that whatever you're charging it wont be an issue paying, you then go into the project.
Now most people hearing that would say "awesome take the job" but in hindsight the organisation politically was not a good company to deal with because it cannibalised the industry in 2001 and had very poor standing with other players. The other players would NEVER take on a person associated with this company due to the bad blood. I am not going to name the company but it was extremely hard to find work having that on a portfolio not to mention leaving it off ran the risk of having a hole on my CV.

The problem was your lack of experience. **BUT** that would only be held against you if you couldn't EXPLAIN it. What I am saying is taking the money you need to see how that will look on your CV. I now work for one of the largest media companies in Australia as a CD and the best advice I can give is you need to see how your work can limit or expand you career horizons.
If you're in a position to pick-and-choose, then either (a) you already know yourself, your talent, your work, and you are NOT the kind of person who the OP is, or (b) you need to go through the fire AND know how to learn from and explain mistakes.

I'm a bit disappointed in this photo. I could have done a better edit but out of 5 different ones this is the best I could get with my skills. I'm going to take a photoshop class in the summer. I need to step my game up a lot!

Maybe I'm the only one that thinks this, but, while it's a cool demo, I'd probably never use this. The iPad would have to reach at least the amount of control and sensitivity of a Cintiq to make this useful. So it's cool that Adobe is working on it, and maybe with future revs of hardware, the iPad will get to that point (I really hope it does). But it all still seems like finger painting to me until you have control with some sort of drawing utensil. The funny thing is, Steve Jobs - the man who spouts and gushes over creating tools by artists for artists, and - is the one man leading the fight against any sort of stylus for use with the iDevices. While I agree with him on use throughout the iOS interface, all artists are NOT created equal. I've seen fantastic work by some of the guys using their fingers with those paint programs, but I'd say for the majority of artists out there, the real key is going to be getting a stylus that works properly in a drawing or painting app on the iOS.

Where does he say that he does not like the Financial Time? The point is, he does not like that the Financial Times sells the address to junk mailers, and I also must agree with it. Unfortunately there is these day not too much choice since you often don't know who is putting you on those lists - I found out about some due to typos in my unusual name that they had made in my subscriptions and I got junk in the good old paper mail to the 'wrong' name. But usually you don't know who sells your name and it is good if you have an option where you don't you are not put on stupid paper wasting junk lists. - FT does not need my name and/or address.

Thats what I suspected, since mine can play 720p at 65% CPU under 10.4 and approx 85-90% under 10.5 (10.5 is an empty install on there though, since I prefer the speed of 10.4 on my G4s - Its just there so I can use my PowerBook as my main troubleshooting 'book). Im still surprised you haven't worked out a miraculous way to get a ATI Radeon 5770 in your G4 :p - My CPU in xBench is 87, so there is a bit of a gap. My overall score is... 74, which I guess explains it.
The main point here is that his dual 867 is slower than both our G4's in question so he needs to go slightly below what we are playing on our hardware. 480p h.264 and 720p DivX etc. will be fine on his MDD.
Once he gets the 9700 though the core image support over AGP 4x will certainly help a lot.

I have a droid.(had iPhone on ATT but didnt get coverage at work/home) I payed an extra $100 to get the 1 year commitment in Nov 2009 just in case the CDMA iPhone came out a year later. Well it did come out a year later and my verizon contract was up. But I didnt get it because it was the same 8 month old phone and there is 0 chance I am going to get locked into a 2 year deal in january for a 8 month old phone that I wont be able to trade in until the June release 2.5 years later.
I'm surprised they are surprised.
I like iphones, but I am really considering a droid,
2 VZW droids release today the 3G Droid Incredibile 2 and Droid Charge LTE 4G both have unlimited data and allow up to 10 mobile hotspot connections and oh mobile hotspot is totally free and unlimited till june..... very tempting!

This has to be the worst MacWorld in my recollection. I was super excited to see a Leopard demo, and to order iLife '07 and iWork '07. Especially iWork, which I use all the time.
The name change scares me. The iPhone is useless to me since it is super expensive, and Cingular won't touch South Dakota with a 200 mile pole.
And the Apple tv? Please. If it had DVR capability, I'd be on board. But, everything has to go through iTunes.
My only highlight of the day wasn't even in the keynote, and that's the new AirPort Extreme Base Station. I'll probably get one of those sometime this Spring when I get married. Oh well.

Despite the birth rate in the UK being around 2 (1.96 if I remember correctly) there are, sadly, plenty of children/babies in need of a good home. Recently, the law was changed to ensure homosexuals would be able to adopted children if they want. Lesbian couples could also ask for a donor, and gay couples for a surrogate.
We need to move beyond the idea that marriage is about a man and a women reproducing. Firstly, it isn't about that. Secondly, there is no reason same-sex couples can't raise just as many children as heterosexual couples.

No, I'm not, because I want it to stop. But at least you are speaking in plain english now.
Again, we are not europe. So europe doesn't torture and where has that gotten them? They still get attacked by terrorists, even sweden, go figure. Moral superiority or not, safety of our nation and other western nations is more important. If torture is needed to get that information and save thousands of lives, then we should do it.
This has nothing to do with Europe vs the US. Europe doesn't have any bearing on whether Americans feel torture is an acceptable activity. I don't think we need to torture people in order to combat terrorism. Torture is wrong, it damages our credibility and brutalizes us as a society. I want no part in it, and bin Laden's carcass is a very poor reward for the hundreds of thousands of people who have died during this quest to find him. After 9/11, the US received genuine sympathy from all over the world. We've squandered that goodwill and then some over the last decade.
Someone has to do the dirty work, and it's always us. But that's ok, that's how it's always been and it's why we're such a proud nation.

The thing is, all these games are available for free online for your mac. I suppose if you want to play them on your ipad or phone that's one thing. If that doesn't matter, you can get your nostalgia for free. Same goes for NES, Coleco, Super NES, and Genesis emulators.

I've owned my SB (2011) MBP for over a month now. I have yet to use the Thunderbolt port and wished many times that it had USB3.0 support. Are there any Thunderbolt adapters available on the market yet? TB to USB 3.0 would be great. Alternatively a docking station would be cool. Anything besides the one LaCie drive?
